The Crescent Tote Bag

I’m Christine from @gemini_stitchers on Instagram and @The_Gemini_Stitcher over on YouTube.

I’ve been sewing for a long time on and off and really got back into dressmaking a couple of years ago.

Whilst in the process of creating my own capsule wardrobe I’ve made a few basic bags, so when I found the Crescent Tote Bag by Noodlehead Patterns it seemed like the obvious next step in my bag making journey.

Tuesday’s Child Fabrics kindly agreed to supply the fabrics and pattern for my Tote Bag in exchange for an honest review of the pattern and fabrics and I was over the moon with the quality of the canvas and cotton lining fabrics they sent me.

Angular Strings - Cotton Canvas
£4.50

This is a medium weight cotton canvas, ideal for bag making.

The light background, along with various hues of pink and yellow irregular lines creating angular shapes make this a fun fabric which is both interesting and simple at the same time.

A conversation between the art-covered streets visited daily by hundreds of people, and the imagination of an innocent and colorful mind. Chalk & Paint depicts theartists thoughts & observations of her surroundings, with a brush soaked in warm soothing colors in one palette and calming dusty marks in the other.

The outer fabric is a medium weight cotton canvas in a bright abstract stripe design which is perfect for the summer tote bag I was planning.  The lining fabric has a cute mushroom design which matches perfectly with the outer and puts a smile on my face every time I look inside.  Tuesday’s Child Fabrics also provided me with excellent quality cotton webbing for the straps.

Noodlehead Patterns come with detailed instructions with pattern pieces for the shaped pieces and cutting dimensions for all the straight pieces.  There’s a detailed check list to work through at the beginning and labels you can cut out to mark the pieces as you go and avoid confusion.

The Crescent Tote Bag came out a little larger than anticipated, which makes it perfect as a holiday beach bag, pool bag and carry all when out sight seeing for the day.  I recently took it on a trip to Anglesey and managed to fit my personal belongings along with a packed lunch, water bottle and beach towel.

Comforts of Home: Mushrooms White
£4.50

This Cloud9 Fabrics quilting cotton is from the Comforts of Home Range. It features pink and orange mushrooms against a white background.

This fabric is ideal for bag linings, or to use with wadding for a quilted bag.

Comforts of Home is a collection inspired by the simple things that can soothe one's soul. Mood boosting pets and greenery to vibrant citrus scents and healthy foods. This collection is a celebration of creating a calming space for self-care.

This is a great beginner pattern and if you are new to bag making then take a look at Tuesdays Child Fabrics’ Bag Kits, which come with everything you need to make your first bag without searching for all the interfacings hardware and notions needed.

So, will I make the Crescent Tote Bag again?  I absolutely will be doing and can see one being made for every season.  For the next one I think I will add a magnetic fastener to make it a bit more secure and a lobster claw clasp to the inside for clipping my car keys onto.
